About Mr. Shalman

Mr. Shalman

The graduating class of 2021 will be my fifth year at Cleveland High School - and I am thrilled to be apart of the learning community! I graduated from Lewis & Clark College with an MAT Science with endorsements in Biology and Integrated Science. After graduation, I spent 2 years teaching High School Biology in Vancouver, WA. Some of my favorite things include traveling, hiking, backpacking, camping, reading, and general adventuring. Most importantly, I love learning, science, and all of the places wherein those topics interact. My passion is to encourage youth to develop an intercultural understanding, be openminded, and cultivate the attitudes necessary to respect and evaluate different points of views.

IB Biology

Welcome to IB Biology! Biology, simply put, is the study of life - the study of how living things interact with the natural world around them. Throughout this course, we will be focusing on the basic building blocks of life, the diversity of life, the organization of life, how living things evolve over time, how resources are used to help organisms stay alive, and about how living things grow, reproduce, and pass on their heritable characteristics to their offspring. We will be working at a college rigor level to prepare for the IB examination.
